Welcome to the Whitleigh Community Primary School
Whitleigh Primary School is a modern building part of the Sir John Hunt School Federation in the heart of Whitleigh, Plymouth. The school is located in the Wood View Learning Community, which also includes Sir John Hunt Community Sports College and Woodlands Special School, as well other community services such as the Youth Centre.
We are a happy, creative school where all children belong. Visitors always comment on the calm, purposeful atmosphere at Whitleigh. Our children are eager to learn and their behaviour and attitudes are representative of this. Sitting alongside our commitment to pupil welfare is a constant and relentless focus on the progress of each and every child in the school. We consider ourselves a family. We foster strong relationships between pupils and staff and our children create long-lasting relationships with their peers.
We provide a stimulating, creative and challenging curriculum for each and every one of our pupils. We are extremely proud of the varied and meaningful learning opportunities that we provide across the curriculum and as extra-curricular activities. Our pupils have opportunities to learn through a wide range of educational visits, experiences and events, including residential trips. We teach an immersive and engaging topic based curriculum and provide lots of opportunities for active learning.
Our staff have a shared drive to constantly review, improve and enrich our curriculum to ensure learning is relevant and exciting for all pupils. Our highly experienced and stable staff inspire our children with a life-long love of learning. They provide pupils with appropriate academic challenges and an excellent breadth and quality of education beyond the core subjects.
We have dedicated Art and Music rooms and have shared access to the fantastic facilities at Sir John Hunt Community Sports College including sports halls, pitches, gymnasium, performance hall and conference rooms. Exhibitions, concerts and sports tournaments are a regular feature of school life.
Parents and families are integral to the life of the school. There are lots of opportunities for families to be involved in school life. Our Friends of Whitleigh Committee are hugely supportive of the school and organise a wide range of exciting events that take place throughout the year.
We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you into our family.
If you would like to arrange a visit, we’d be delighted to show you around. Please contact our school office to find a suitable time.
