At Whitleigh Primary School we take seriously our responsibility to use the Pupil Premium to improve the outcomes for children identified as socially disadvantaged. We are committed to meeting their academic, pastoral, social and emotional needs in a nurturing and caring environment. The Pupil Premium will be used strategically for every entitled child to develop their true potential, irrespective of need. There is no expectation that all pupil premium children will receive identical support; indeed the allocation of budget for each child feeds into the schools budget for pupil premium, rather being ring fenced for an individual child. Some children will need more than others and each child is individual, with individual circumstances. The school considers how to allocate pupil premium money to different interventions and projects on an annual basis, following rigorous data analysis and careful consideration of the needs of the pupils within this group. We use information from the Sutton Trust- Education Endowment Fund Toolkit to research those resources which provide the best results and value for money.
At Whitleigh Primary School:
We will aim to be fair and transparent in our use and distribution of the Pupil Premium funding.
We will ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all of the pupils and in particular those identified as being socially disadvantaged.
We will ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who are identified as belonging to vulnerable groups, this includes ensuring that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils are adequately assessed and addressed
In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils, we recognise that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged.
Priorities for Use of Pupil Premium
Across all of our priorities listed below is the overarching goal of ‘Early Help’ meaning we identify any issues or difficulties (socially, academically or otherwise) as early as possible and try to ensure that the support needed is received as quickly as possible.
Our priorities for using the Pupil Premium are as follows;
Pupil Performance - To continue to diminish the gap for those pupils not on track to achieve at or above age related expectations at the end of Foundation Stage, KS1 and KS2 through the use of targeted and strategic support.
Targeted Interventions – To provide well researched, targeted interventions that have a proven track record and create a measurable impact in a relatively short block of time, so that every child is subject to quality first teaching in the classroom.
Behaviour and Attendance – To tackle lateness and absence through tracking and follow up as well as walking bus, behaviour and attendance incentives and family support.
Enrichment - Provide experiences in order for pupils eligible for FSM for example additional after school clubs, music and dance tuition and offsite visits.
Social and Emotional Support – Provide additional adult support, including counsellors, enhanced speech therapy provision and Learning Mentors to help facilitate social and emotional development for identified children.
Extensive teaching resources- To ensure that all of our pupils are both motivated and able to access and achieve against the National Curriculum by having extensive resources available to support their next steps in learning.
Reporting Effectiveness of Pupil Premium Grant
At Whitleigh Community Primary School the Head Teacher regularly reports on the impact of the PPG.
The report may include the following information;
A detailed analysis of the progress made by children and identified groups in terms of narrowing the achievement gap.
Provision for identified children and groups across the school.
An analysis and evaluation of the effectiveness of the allocated PPG.
At Whitleigh Primary the Governors will ensure that there is an annual statement to parents on how the Pupil Premium funding has been used which will be made available to parents and published on the schools’ website.
